Developer Forum is a monthly digital event that offers Navelink users and stakeholders a chance to discuss development progress and upcoming focus areas. Attendees can listen to presentations about Navelink’s work and products and receive updates on maritime services and standardization work around data formats. During the last Navelink Developer Forum, held on the 27th of April 2023, the main topic was the “Get Public Key” feature. Mikael Olofsson, Navelink’s Systems Architect and Head of Concept, presented the feature and its possible use cases.

Latest Service Updates

Mikael Olofsson gave a presentation on the “Get Public Key” feature. Though it will not be added to MCP (Maritime Connectivity Platform) immediately, it will be available in May as a service in the Navelink Service Registry for the VDES (VHF Data Exchange System) testbed. This feature can be valuable in use cases where a ship does not have access to the internet or if the information is coming from another source, such as VDES. Additionally, secret information exchange using Navelink is possible through the “Secret Key Exchange” feature. Users wanting to learn how to access this can contact us for instructions.

MCP Update

The Maritime Connectivity Consortium (MCC) plans to release version 1.2.0 of the Maritime Connectivity Platform (MCP) in May. The version will first be installed in the DEV and TEST environment and validated there before being released in the Operational environment. More information about the test results of the new release will be provided on the next Navelink Developer Forum before any changes are implemented in Navelink’s Operational environment.

Investigation of Suspected DDoS Attacks

Navelink has recently experienced some issues, suspected to be caused by minor DDoS attacks. DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks are a type of cyberattack that use multiple compromised systems to flood a targeted system or network with traffic, overwhelming the server’s capacity, resulting in downtime, and making it inaccessible to legitimate users. Navelink has only suffered from minimal downtime, but the team is working on solving the issue and preventing it from reoccurring. Further updates will be provided during the next Developer Forum.

The next Navelink Developer Forum will take place on 25th of May 2023 at 14:00 CET.
